Gadget Saturday: Portable Chargers

Today's post is my first article in gadget reviews, which I will call as Gadget Saturdays. This follows my High Fives series and as you can see from its name, I will have a review about a gadget written every Saturday from now on. So please follow if you are interested, I just built a code for following on the top right section of the site so be sure to try it!

This time I am going to write about the power of portable chargers and which one is best for you.

Today's smartphone might be powerful enough to substitute as a portable workstation, but with that comes great need for power, which is why your smartphone usually never lasts through a busy day. Making a phone with higher capacity battery is also a no-go for them since it will also mean a bulkier battery and a bulky phone. Following that rule, apparently about 1500 mAh is the general rule of thumb for the smartphones currently circulating in the market.

Sure, you can just bring around your phone charger everywhere you go, but if there are no wall sockets nearby, a portable charger might just allow you to make that last, important phone call (or text).

Trent iTorch IMP52D

For this I choose Trent's for its relatively small and simple design. It costs $36 bucks through Amazon and I currently have one at home charging my gadgets. Some people might be put off by the blue accents but I kinda like it (reminds me of Tron). There is also a usb slot provided in the device for charging purposes. This external battery contains 5200 mAh of juice and is claimed to be able to charge an iPhone for another extra 27 hours.(oh goody!)

Well, I have never found the opportunity to actually test that claim, but maybe you can! This particular portable charger also have all connector tips known to men provided in the package. So don't worry, it will charge any of your gadgets! For safety though, you might just want to check over the official site whether it have the particular connector tips you are searching for.

My second-gen iPad  usually charges from about 10% to 50% with them and my phone can charge to 100% about twice from 10%. (usually end up with a single blip left from a maximum of 5 blips)

If you are interested in this charger, you might want to buy from my Amazon Associates Link, it will give me some commission and save you 15% of the device's price.

Sony Portable Charger for PS Vita

Sony's solution to Vita's short battery life is this portable charger. While it does not offer the same capacity as the above, Sony's 5000 mAh charger offers a better design overall, though quite expensive at $50 a pop. The whole package contains only the charger so unfortunately you have to bring your device's charging cables around with you. It works universally with any cable you can name, as long as it ends in a usb connector.
