Why You Got Them In The First Place
1. Facebook
Facebook is one of the worst plague in my Hotmail account right now and accounts for about 2500+ e-mails that I have there. My inbox is now sitting in the 4 digits, all because of Facebook's fault. (okay some of it is mine)
2. Daily Deals
Some daily deals services like Groupon or Living Social might contribute to your massive inbox if you have ever registered for them. Stopping them is surprisingly hard for since I got 4 of those sites and unsubscribing is, well, exhausting. Add that to my laziness and they are still untouched to this day.
3. Registering In Random Sites
Signing up your warranties apparently makes you "eligible" to their newsletters and promotions. They are not the worst kinds since they rarely bring updates. Some forums also notify you by e-mail for every reply and private messages. Right now they occupy around 10% of my inbox but since I like being notified about replies (so that I can reply back), I decided to let them be for now.
4. Email Subscription
If you read other blogs and like what you see, you subscribe to them. Unfortunately what brings great happiness to the author brings you an e-mail everyday. One or two blogs/website will not disturb you but if you have around 10-15 blogs subscribed like me, you can get around 15 e-mails each day. After a two weeks vacation you would have gathered around 200 emails that you know you will never read.
How To Stop Them Before It's Too Late
1. Facebook
You see, Facebook always delivers useless e-mails like, "Person A commented in your photo" or "Person B tags you in his photo". Worse, they won't stop there because when you are tagged, all comments regarding the photo will create another e-mail to your inbox, notifying you of the reply. You should know yourself what the comments will be like: 'useless'.
Fortunately there is a setting in your account settings page labeled "Notifications", all you need to is uncheck them all and you are done. Don't know why I never bother to check them out.
2. Daily Deals
Unsubscribedeals.com offers you an easy way to unsubscribe all your daily deals e-mails. All you need to is press the big ass "Connect with your Gmail Account" button and sign in with your google account. Don't worry it will only bring you ONE e-mail notifying that you applied there and stuff.
3. Registering in Random Sites
I hope you still remember your account sign-in ID and passwords for them. I don't, that's why I'm stuck with these e-mails from them. If you remember your account, good, you can unsubscribe them directly by visiting each site one by one and see where the "unsubscribe" link is placed. Usually there is already an "unsubscribe" link provided in the bottom of those e-mails.
4. Email Subscription
The steps you take will be the same as the steps you take ditching those membership cards in your wallet. Choose some of the blogs you don't read anymore and unsubscribe to them. Do reserve a spot for mine though. (hint!hint!)
